Building and Final Product
These are images of me and my best buddy, Ryan, building and finishing our incredible vessel, which is planned to set sail April 16th.
At first, Ryan and I had decided to do a design that looked simple. As we began building, however, we decided to build a design that was more aerodynamically functional. We have a slanted fronted so that the wind will go over it. We made a square sail instead of a triangle sail so that the wind will catch, and it will go faster. We used mainly glue to construct our boat and we also wrapped it up in aluminum foil so that water would not seep through any cracks. When we tested it out it not only floated, but it also went fast through the water when Ryan blew into the sail. I'm interested to see just how fast it will go on Wednesday and I hope we win the competition. I'm proud of our cute, little sailing vessel.
After the Trial
WE WON. Our boat went 101 inches, which was the farthest any of the boats traveled. Below is a pic of the winning boat and a video of the sweet victory. Our boat could be improved by a more sturdy sail and may have even traveled further if we had used a pool. Our boat was awesome.
